So yes the hotel is a bit dated but everything else more than made up for it. All the staff were excellent and many spoke good English, which was helpful if you have poor Chinese, like me. Didn’t eat in the main restaurant as club lounge met our needs. Couldn’t fault it! The evening drinks and food was also good quality and very generous. There was a buffet and you could order off the menu too, about 15 different items made to order. The staff in the club lounge were excellent and breakfast up there was very decent. River views were beautiful, rooms were a little smaller as mentioned but they were really comfortable and warm.

Following some negative reviews about the hotel we went thinking it wouldn’t be that great but actually it was. We really enjoyed our 3 nights at the Shangrila.
